Short answer: NameVerse charges one flat 10% financing premium on every lease-to-own plan, on every term it offers (12, 24, 36, or 60 months, set by price). Afternic — GoDaddy's marketplace, which absorbed Dan.com in 2025 — charges buyers an escalating service fee of 0%, 10%, 20%, or 30% depending on how many months you choose. Afternic is cheaper on terms of 12 months or less. NameVerse is cheaper on every term over 24 months, and the gap widens with the term: on a $75,000 name paid over 60 months the difference is $15,000.

How to read it: at NameVerse the premium never changes; the term is set by the listing price (and is negotiable on every listing). At Afternic the buyer picks any term from 2 to 60 months on any eligible listing ($495 to $5,000,000 Buy-It-Now), and the fee percentage follows the term chosen. Afternic's fee covers its payment processing, renewals, and DNS support during the lease; NameVerse's premium covers the same things.

Monthly figures are total ÷ months, rounded up to the dollar, which is how nameverse.net computes the plan shown on each listing. Afternic figures apply the published buyer service fee to the list price and divide by the term; Afternic may add sales tax where applicable, which is excluded here.
If you can pay a name off within 12 months, Afternic's 0% tier beats our flat 10% and we will say so. Afternic also carries a far larger inventory (it aggregates listings from thousands of sellers across GoDaddy's registrar network), so if the specific name you want is listed there and nowhere else, that settles it.

Dan.com was a separate marketplace with the same escalating buyer-fee model. GoDaddy, which bought Dan.com in 2022, announced its merger into Afternic on September 12, 2024 and closed the Dan.com platform on June 27, 2025, migrating sellers and in-progress lease plans to Afternic.
